In 2024, Ghana’s head of state signed a Presidential Compact which, when implemented, will establish a National Sanitation Authority and increase annual investments, as well as reducing inequalities in water and sanitation services - particularly in rural communities. Water features highly as a cross-party priority and even where there has been a change in ruling party, multi-partisan support has enabled continuity in progress. To achieve the SDGs for water again and, this time, sanitation, the government of Ghana has elevated both to the highest political level.
