Burundi
OCTOBER 2026
Burundi signed a Presidential WASH Compact, becoming the sixth Heads of State Initiative Compact signed in 2026. The Compact combines ambitious targets for increasing access to WASH services with reforms and resource mobilization needed to achieve them. Implementation is already moving forward, including work with the Presidency to lay the groundwork for a National WASH Platform.
Democratic Republic of the Congo
The Democratic Republic of Congo has taken the first firm steps in the implementation of the Presidential WASH Compact. The head of State has instructed the Prime Minister to coordinate the following initial actions: Establish a consolidated dashboard of ongoing WASH projects; identify and resolve challenges in the implementation of priority projects; identify a portfolio of priority projects for each of the 26 provinces; and continue the reforms of the national service provider.
Tanzania
The President of Tanzania signed the WASH Presidential Compact, marking an important milestone for the country’s WASH agenda. The Compact creates an opportunity to strengthen national leadership and accelerate progress towards more equitable and sustainable services.
